[s-cars] 20k civics

I just gotta chime in...

Was sitting out in the local grocery parking lot waiting for the wife on Sat when this young kid pulls in next to me. You guessed it, bright red honda civic slammed to the ground with what looks like a set of stairs for rear wing. I'm holding back REAL hard. He's just finishing up his burger and fries when three very attractive young ladies pulls up and the driver yells over, "hey I like what you did to your car !". I'm freakin... I have all these scenarios running through my head.
1)They know this guy. 2)Their busting his balls. 3)They really like it ? About two minutes later another attractive adult women slows to take a long look at this piece of crap and actually gives the kid the "thumbs up"... WTF ? Feeling like I was in the twilight zone I quickly moved to a different parking spot...

And while I'm at it. I'm starting to see more and more trucks running those huge (what are they 22-24") rims most of the manufacturers are pushing these days. I've always been a big wheel fan but these things are proof that there IS a limit... looks ridiculous IMHO.

Tom.

Uh, Get real dude!

Honda Civics and Acura Integras have high insurance for what they are as
they are wrecked by these reckless kids all the time, and they are
consistantly the most stolen cars out there. Why?? Demand for parts in the
"import scene". And, it's also very hard to track them down.

If you own a real Type-R, you stand a VERY good chance of it being stolen by
some poser for parts.

That's the reality, and the insurance argument doesn't explain this
phenomenon.

It catches on mostly because a few people do it, then they think it's cool,
so everyone wants to do it, and soon they are the masses... and like
lemmings they just follow the crowd. Most of them aren't "car people" and
don't know jack about cars. They are into the import scene and culture.
Ten years ago they would have been driving a slammed mini-truck with 8 15"s
in the back of it. That's the reality. But, thank god that period is over!
But, much like the mini-truck craze, we all will laugh at all these
cheeseball riced out Civics... that is if we aren't already.

I'm into "real cars, for real car people".

Later,
Dan
