You can use a sleeve spacer on the top of the shock (threaded portion) instead of machining another groove in the shock. I believe this problem originated with the "lower" rear perch 5k FWD application on which these rears are *reference* measured. I've had to install many of these spacers in the t44tq chassis over the years to compensate for the "dumpy" ass syndrome. That said, do remember that many of the aftermarket "kit" guys (abt comes to mind) have the lowered rear for better handling. It may look bad, but it performs better on the track.
