[s-cars] Brake Warning Light

Fred,

Exact same thing happened on my car. 3 reasons for the light staying on...
you should check them in order of easiest and cheapest to fix...

1. Fluid level too low. Check that both your brake fluid looks clean and
is up to Max line and same for your hydraulic fluid level. If those are ok,
then next you will want to test the sensors at those two points to make sure
they are still good. To do this you will want to "close the circuit" by
connecting the two pins on the female end of the connector together using a
piece of wire. If the brake light continues to stay on... move on to step
2.

2. Low hydraulic pressure in the brake system. Means your bomb is bad.
Do the bomb test. Start up car and drive it for a few minutes. Then, while
on a slight slope facing downhill shut off car and test by pumping the brake
pedal. Do this repeatadely. You should get 10-14 good pumps before the
pedal goes totally hard.

3. Check that when pull up the e-brake, the brake warning light gets
brighter... if the light stays the same brightness, and you've checked
everything else... people have told me this is a good sign the pin in the
release sensor pin for the light at the e-brake is stuck open or is bent
somehow. So, in order to fix it you need to then remove the entire middle
console to get to it as it's underneath where the e-brake sits. This is
where I'm stuck. I just ordered the new sensor from the dealer just in case
it's truly broken.

Hope this helps... let me know if you have any good pointers on how to
remove this center console piece!

Thanks!

Later,
Dan
