Hey Brian,
Not too familiar with the Lehmann chip..but I hear the power is more linear vs. the on/off nature of the MTM+ (Which I have) As for the pinging..I only hear it on HOT days and when the car has been sitting at a stop-light and you get up in to 2nd-3rd gears WOT (Full Thottle) I also live in Denver.
See comments below:
"The MTM 1+ runs the car very lean at part throttle and it the transition to
full throttle. Light detonation is common in the conditions you describe.
The IA III+ (Lehman chip) timing chip runs richer at transition and I've
never seem this problem with it." - Robert Pastore
"Yes, MTM 1+ has a somewhat aggressive timing map. Our cars need better
intercoolers and/or water injection BIG TIME."- Igor Kessel
"Bigger injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would help your
problem..." - Hap
Hope that helps

Subject: [s-cars] Lehmann vs. MTM (was: MTM Stage 1+ AND Pinging AND Hot
Weather)
Greetings all,
I am preparing to send in my ECU via the GP for either the MTM+3 bar or the
Lehmann. After hearing about the pinging issues with the MTM, I am curious
as to what experience the listers have in Lehmann and MTM.
I realize that everyone has different priorities for the chips they are
after. I have a 97 S6 which is used for non-track driving, highway cruises,
etc. I will be putting in the Samco hoses and the engine checks out
(leak-down tests, etc.).
I want a decent kick in power without having to resort to RS2 components
(maybe in another couple of years); however, I live in CO where the
elevation makes the air lean and we can only get 91 octane fuel.
I have searched the list archives and the web and have not found direct
comparisons of Lehmann and MTM+ (in fact, I can't find the performance
numbers of the Lehmann anywhere). Most of the Lehmann information I have
found is in regards to the 200t.
I had researched the MTM+ and thought it to be perfect for my needs;
however, if the car is going to be pinging up and down the road, I am
concerned. Is the pinging issue only applicable in very hot weather? Is it
rather uncommon?
What words of advice can the list oracles provide? Thanks!
Cheers,
Brian
