Ed,
Igor provided an amazing guide for you. It is certainly tempting.
However, if you've never done this before, why would you want your first to=
be your S Car.? I can't determine if you've been in this deep, so pardon =
me if you have a lot of experience.
Igor is right about taking time and details. That''s the reason I do my own=
maintenance. What you are about to embark on is rather significant. Just =
be sure you can execute it including all the experienced based details Igor=
 may not have written down.
Just trying to keep you out of the swamp.

was pulling me literally by my sleeve coz we had an appointment in
midtown Manhattan at 13:00.

Ed, if (cost of tools + cost of parts) =3D the dealer's quote, then it's a
no brainer IMO. You do the job yourself, you do it meticulously right,
down to every ridiculously little detail, and you get to keep a set of
tools in the process.
