~I bought a 1995 S6 Avant a couple of days ago to replace my aging
~80q. What
~a car!

~The wastegate has a vacuum connection on the top. Nothing is connected to
~it (it's open to atmospheric pressure). Is this right? Do UK spec models
~not bother with a wastegate frequency valve?
A. I think you're OK. As far as I know there shouldn't be anything (in
standard configuration) connected to that nipple on the top of the waste
gate. The WGFV control line if you have one should show up connected to the
lower chamber of the waste gate.
B. So far as I'm aware (but then I'm not in the UK) all the AAN / Motronic
ECU management setups include a WGFV; and its a part the fails often enough
to get semi frequent mention on the list. I.e. when you stop seeing 2.1 bar
(in fact if you are seeing 2.1 bar ~> x 14.5 = 30+ psi of boost!) I would
think you may have a WGFV issue unless your car has been well "chipped." Or
maybe I'm misunderstanding your 2.1 bar measurement. Just for reference, 18
psi (? @ 1.3 bar) I think is your, or our cars on the 15 second timed
"over-boost" limit; 20~23 psi is generally regarded as a "... lot of boost
to be running."
I think 30+ psi may be something to consider running away from on a regular
basis, unless you've got access to 100+ octane aviation fuel. Even then,
....
BTW, is this a factory boost gauge? In the US Audi stopped furnishing boost
gauge instrumentation after the 1992 Model Year UrS4's. From 93 on you had
to install an after market gauge if you wanted to monitor boost &/or vacuum.
OTOH, I believe the factory gauge which came as part to the trip computer
LED display in the dash in the 1991 200TQ (the "related" 3B engine system)
and 1992 UrS4's) was reputed to be somewhat slow & suspect in its accuracy.
BTW, a hearty congratulations on your purchase.
