[s-cars] My door has fallen and it can't get up! (or my question for the day...)

Hi Rob;

It sounds like your hinges may be worn rather than your door being out of
adjustment.

Open your door about 12" or so, grab the bottom, and lift. Watch the
hinges, particularly the lower hinge. Does the door move up and down due to
play in the hinge pins? If so, it's time for new hinges.

Moving the adjustment is a temporary fix but it will just mask the problem.
Once re-adjusted, the slop is all on the "up" side of the closed door and
you may get some rattle or seal squeak on bumps.

I was detailing the inside of the door jams today, and noticed that the
drivers door falls quite a bit when you open it. The door closes fine, but
I
can see that it is scaring the door plate on the middle pillar when it is
closed (because it "climbs" the plate to close).

So, what do you guys think? Is it just a shim or something? I am a handtool
mechanic, can I fix this myself?

Thanks!
