Unless things have changed since the last time I was in the UK, you can get=
 your VAT refunded at the airport when you leave the UK.  Make sure you hav=
e a copy of your receipt and carry the parts as luggage.  Alternately if yo=
u have the parts shipped to the US they should be able to sell parts withou=
t VAT.  I buy CD's via the internet from a UK company with no VAT charged.

This also works for single malt whiskey, but, sale prices in the US on whis=
key are usually lower than UK prices even without VAT.  Of course, selectio=
n is much better in the UK.
