Mike Bess is currently having this repair done on his S6. The shop is
cutting out the damaged area and welding in a good section from a wreck.
They are then going to reinforce the mount. Apparently the shop owner is
documenting the repair.
The thread should be in the archives, back around July 20 or so as I
recall.

Subject: [s-cars] 93 Audi S4 Steering Rack Bracket Cracked
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Left front wheel well. Chasis bracket with 2" diameter hole to which the
Steering Rack is mounted cracked. Tried welding the crack (vertical from
2" hole to bottom of bracket), but weld did not hold. My mechanic is
looking to bolt another bracket on top of the cracked one, using longer
bolts from the steering rack to secure it, plus extra bolts to the wheel
well wall.
Has anyone out there had the same problem, and found a good alternative
solution?
