There are some excellent instructions on the urs4.com site:

Replacing the temperature display bulb does require soldering. Not too
hard, although I don't know if I would want to tackle it without at least a
little previous soldering experiance. Make sure to have solder braid to
soak up the old solder in order to remove the old bulb... getting the old
bulb out was the hardest part for me.
I used a Radio Shack #272-1092 12V microlamp (2 in a pack for $1.49).
Take your time, and make sure to cover the top of the steering column with
tape and/or a towel to avoid scratches before removing the IC!!! Otherwise,
take your time and the whole thing is pretty straighforward.
Lots of guys also "upgrade" the dashboard illumination from 1.1 watt bulbs
to 2.0 watt bulbs while they have the IC out, although the IC is easy enough
to remove you can certainly do this for later if desired. To do this you
need to have ten (10) of the 2.0 watt bulbs on hand. The 2.0 watt blubs
with the small very light green hex base are the best, but the 2.0 watt
bulbs with the larger square green base (893-919-040A) will also work if you
pinch the contacts with needlenose pliers prior to installation to ensure a
snug fit. (Some cars may only need nine (9) bulbs, but watch out for the
hidden one under the yellow connector!)
Good luck! (And yes, this is much cheaper than a dealership solution!)
