Darin,

I bought a 60gal upright many years ago with approx 12 -13 cfm @90psi
rating. It was used when I got it, and it has been running flawlessly since
I got it about 8 years ago. I traded a swimming pool diving board plus
about $100 cash IIRC. I then bought a bunch of air tools at the local pawn
shop and I have to say it was the single best purchase for my shop that I
ever made. I leave it on all the time, so I have air at a moment's notice
any time. It hasn't been bogged down with any typical airtools and I dare
say more than a few folks on this list have enjoyed the benefits of my
compressor. I highly recommend you buy at least a cheap one and if you can
spend $400 or more, you are likely to get a pretty decent one.

I'd recommend you pay a little more than average to get a good 1/2" impact,
a 3/8" air drill, then a good die grinder, 3/8" impact and possibly a 3/8"
ratchet. I use these the most. I occasionally use an air chisel (buy cheap
here) and I have a very large body grinder that I use once in a blue moon.
If you get a 3/8" ratchet, make sur eit is a narrow body so that it fits in
tight spaces. You might even look into a 1/4" ratchet. The air hose is
really great for cleaning the garage floor. :) I also recommend buying
easy-couplers that allow you to join a tool to the hose without pulling back
on the collar. They are just a little more expensive than regular old style
couplers but much more convenient to use.

HTH
