[s-cars] Remote woes and LED's

Hi Matt;

Your remote is an infrared (IR) unit. There is no antenna - the IR detector
is the rectangular black plastic lozenge in the B pillar (between the front
and rear doors).

The IR remote has a range of 10 feet or so. As the batteries weaken, the
range shortens up. Under some fluorescent lighting, the remote will not work
at all ( this just happened to me in a parking garage).

Subject: [s-cars] Remote woes and LED's

Whew, what a weekend!
(had to say SOMETHING after picking up my jaw off the floor...)
Being that I've followed Paul K on one of his "commutes", I can attest to
the truthfullness of his "rant"...

****
I'm having remote woes.

Have followed the recent posts re reprogramming the remotes for the later
(95.5 up) cars. As this doesn't apply to me, I consulted my owners manual
to see if I could get my remote working again.

One trip to the 'Shack later for new batteries. Then I follow the
instuctions to "teach" the key what the remote locking/alarm code should be.
I get nothing, zilch, nada. No response whatsoever.

So I've consulted RB, and for some reason that particular page which shows a
diagram of where the components are located - will not load properly. I did
discover a handy thing that I can buy at the 'Shack to test the remote to
make sure that it's actually sending out a signal.

Ever since I have owned this 92 //S, the car has had trouble "seeing" the
remote. I usually had to move it around near the driver's door while
pressing the button to get the car to open. 'Bout 6 months ago, THAT
stopped working so I've been using the key in the lock since.

Is there an "antenna" or "pick-up" somewhere in the car that I can check to
see if it's obstructed somehow? Under the rear seat near the control unit
perhaps?

Would changing out the factory Bose stereo have caused this? The reason I
mention this is because I noticed there were 2 antennas plugged into the
factory head unit.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Also, I picked up some 3mm LED's from the 'Shack to fix
