Igor et al,

I too, have noticed the noises coming while reversing in full steering lock.
The issue seems to me to be from wide summer tires that have not yet been
warmed up.  It only ever happened when tires were cool, and at full lock
when they almost seemed to be turned "too much".  When cold, they would not
roll out to the side, but try and pull straight back.  If it happens, try to
have it repeat once you've driven on the tires a few miles.  Most likely,
you won't be able to reproduce the sound.

I wouldn't be able to say whether this *may* lead to other symptoms that
have also been described, but the main cause doesn't seem to be that
serious.
