I bet your ignition switch is bad (not the whole
switch meaning tumblers etc but just the white plastic
part on back) and sometimes it doesn't return to power
the items you said died on you. Very common problem as
the plastic splits and teh spring action fails.

I just replaced mine and if are good at pulling the
inst. cluster you can do it from the top through the
gaping hole.  Took me less than 30 minutes to do mine
and the part is cheap, under 25 bux i think.
