Pls. do me a favor and next time you have a chance, can you do some
measuring of the cargo area in your S6 vs. the allroad?

I'm curious to see if the allroad has a smaller cargo area.

Weird how the new A4 has a smaller cargo area than the old one, although
the new one seems to have more useful space in that there is no
wheelwell
intrusion like in the old.

The type 44 Avant had more space than the C4 chassis wagon, but whether
it was more useful space, I don't know.

Aesthetically yes, the allroad is ugly- must buy in Black, Atlas Grey or
Highland Green so that they're not horrible. In silver, it really looks
bad. If you bought new, you might be able to get all of the
bumpers/flares
painted body color- it's an option in Europe.

I still want either a Ming Blue or Goodwood Green A6 2.7T Avant although
I'd settle for an allroad painted that color all-over and w/o the air
suspension.

There seems to be quite a few allroads around.  Perhaps just coming off
leases.  Longevity of suspensions is highly suspect too IME. Big
drawback aestetically are the bumpers which are kinda ugly unless you
get a black car to have em blend in. And for some reason the cargo area
looks smaller than my avant? My .02 Bill m

We might go for a S6 Avant CPO as well, depending on how
the B6 chassis S4 Avant turns out and I'm not really sold on the
reliability of the allroad's suspension.

Problem is, S6 Avants are ultra-rare. Dad needs the utility
of a wagon so the A6 4.2 is out. :-(

Otherwise, might have to look at Volvo V70R AWD and the
MBZ E430 4Matic (if it comes as a wagon). If BMW made a
5 series wagon with the X5 drivetrain, that would be the one- 530xi
wagon.
