      Right on, James.  The ECU will flash the check engine light every
time it drops an engine fault code.  You may not see it or if it lasts
several seconds , not recognize the significance.  It can only be an
intermittent CPU fault or the engine will not start.

Many of the V6 owners would not know the significance of the light,
until the car would not start.  After the first thousand oil
contaminated sensors were replaced under warranty, any service writer
could diagnose that problem in a flash, before pulling codes.
