Bob,

You're exactly right about the toe. It's drastically affected by camber
changes. I doubt if just marking the tie rod adjusters would be very accurate
either as a little bit goes a long way and it takes a lot of fiddling to get
it even close. The S4 is pretty tolerant of out of spec toe adjustment
though. I didn't notice mine was off until the tires were trashed.

The main issue is that it's not just as simple as loosening the top of the
strut and moving it to a predetermined position for your track camber
setting.
The minute you do that you have also affected your toe settings. The tie rod
is cantilevered out from the strut axis so when you move the top of the strut
to adjust your camber you pivot the strut around the tie rod. If you
normally
run -0.5deg for street and then change it to -2.0deg for track you will have
seriously toed out wheels and you need to shorten the length of the steering
rack by adjusting the tie rods to bring it back in. So as a minimum you need
to readjust the toe at the front whenever you change the camber settings.

Then ideally you should be dialing in more camber in the rear as well to
optimize your track settings. This has the same effect on rear toe but with
the added complication that you need to make sure that you set your toe with
respect to the front wheels and make sure you're symetrical, otherwise your
rear end will be dog tracking. This gets a bit more complicated.

If you chooose to run the same rear settings for both street and track, you
could adjust your front end at the track with basic alignment equipment, a
camber gauge and a trammel bar.
