Subject: [s-cars] Wastegate screw (again)
After recently doing the MTM stage 2 thing, I popped the metal cover off of
my wastegate and tried to give it the requisite 5-turn mod. It was very
difficult to turn with a 4" allen wrench, and I got about 1/4 turn into it
before coming to the realization it would really suck if I rounded the hex
head.
The top of the set screw is just under where the metal cap was, so I'm
assuming that it has not been tampered with before. Has this been
lock-tighted? How hard should this thing be to turn? Paul, did I mention
that I got a chip?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Dave, you got a chip????
FWIW, I noticed ZERO difference from screwing with my screwy screw, nothing,
zilch, nada. Oh, and it's SIX turns BTW silly goose.
Have fun with your new chippy. FWIW, if you're looking for some quick
improvement, try this one. Over beers Sat., Ray had noted my throttle
linkage had a bit of slop in it and adjusted it, took .7 seconds. He then
said, "wait until you drive it", to which I discounted figuring a) Ray's an
attorney (read: full of Sheeeeeeeet 8-) ), and b) how much difference would
I really notice, especially since I'd not seen any speak of it on any of the
S sites, here, etc.
OH BABY is it a noticeable difference. Pedal feel is right there, and the
power is WAY more dialed right in. VERY neat trick, thanks Ray.
Oh, Ray, forgot to tell you, you once again left your Snap On wrench on my
workbench. One more time and it's mine...
