Not to add fuel to the flames (still thinking about how good that Sentra
Woody would look in the driveway), but if I recall correctly, doesn't
(or didn't) Audi sell some of these components, i.e. in particular the
Pistons and connecting rods and/or wrist pins, as matched up "sets" for
balancing purposes?
If you damaged one, I think with Audi, they wanted you to buy a whole
set of 5 "matched" components. At the very least, my guess (certainly
preference) if you found a need to replace anyone of these components,
would be to have the whole internal rotating assembly (i.e. the crank,
connecting rods, pistons mit rings and wrist pins, plus the CR
bearings), take a trip to a balancing shop to be sure.
Anyone tried doing "just one" piston or connecting rod? Can "any"
balancing shop do an inline 5 cylinder, or is there something odd or
unique about the 5 cylinder configuration that requires some special
Hans unt Klaus secret or tools?
I might agree to let the Hoffman clown drive them down there, but I
wouldn't let him put them back in the engine.

I can tell you from personal observation, valves touching the pistons
like this can cause the top ring groove in the piston to get 'squished'
