You should also be concerned about any bodywork that results in the
galvanized coating being removed from the metal parts being repaired.

I'm sure others can comment on this better than I.  What's suggested
on parts repair instead of replacement situations, to ensure that
the rust proofing is retained?  I know the only rust on my (ex) '93
V8 Quattro was on the rear fender edge where some body work had been
done by the P.O.
