While dropping my son off at school I sighted what I concluded must be a
test mule for the new S8 undergoing real-world testing here in the US.
Although the car was very well disguised, the graceful shape of the
contemporary Audi cabin was apparent.
Now while many manufacturers disguise their pre-production test vehicles by
using fabric coverings or zebra paint schemes, in this case it appears that
Audi chose the more sophisticated route of attaching body parts from other
makes of cars (all fine European cars, of course!) First, they used Jaguar
headlights and trim, followed by a Volvo hood and trunk lid (removed from an
S80 T6, I'm sure), and finally they used some Alfa Romeo taillights to
finish off the disguise. Given the mismatch of body parts it was clear that
it couldn't be a production vehicle.
Oh, one more thing. There was an alphanumeric designation affixed to the
rear of the vehicle that must be some kind of internal Audi code... I think
it said "745i". :-)
