Oh boy..
I've followed this thread, as I really don't think the 'pros' do a much better job than us 'amateurs'. Also the customer treatment seems a bit odd, especially the 'change of heart' bit. I'm a bit prone to say 'Don't leave the 'new engine' approach', but if you get a 'new' head, #4 piston and a 1 year full warrant, it won't be bad either. You get a rebuilt engine, with a chance of upgrading some of the bits.

One  thing that hasn't been mentioned: What about the turbo?? A small splinter or debris from the piston/valve/head might crack a vane or induce a premature breakdown. _Very_ hard to check? Any BTDT on this issue?
