As I understand it Paul, the proportioning valve is nothing more than a
restrictor valve that allows for more braking from the rear brakes the
greater the weight load in the boot.  So as far as bleeding there is no real
"need" to prop it open other than it will improve/increase the flow of fluid
thereby expediting the procedure.
