List members,
I changed my left cable fall of '00, and found it to be a little difficult
as well. But I think the exhaust could stay on, it's the propeller shaft
that is in the way!
Anywayz, I just removed the nuts for the heatshield that was in the way,
removed the fastener by the differential, and yanked out the clip with a
piece of 3mm thick bent piano wire. (dremelled off the greater part of the
protruding side, so it was like a small L-shape with a little hook on the
end. When I pulled on each side (from side to side), it actually loosened!)
And with the help of my fiancé and a little string to hold the hook, I
managed to sneak the pre-bent (just a little bend, don't stress or break
it!) new wire on after removing the old. The clip got in with a really long
long-nose-plier and a screwdriver. (clean and lubricate with some grease)
The only real problem was laying on the back under the car on ramps and with
a 3" concrete block under each front wheel for added height..
The right one was a peace of cake compared, except for the hooking of the
cable on the brake lever assy. (no shields or fastened brackets) It seemed a
bit narrower there, and the hook was a bit further in front. Time: Left:
abt. 2 hrs Right abt. 1 hour.
Btw: I don't have the fuel tank cover. Probably loosed during a dealer
visit.. Morons..
I also saw a bit of whitish 'corrosion' along the rear tank seam, how might
I stop that from developing into a leaking tank? *gasp!!*
Another thing while I'm at it; I changed my valve cover gasket, plugs and
extenders, hoping that the small shudders under WOT would disappear, and
also to get the plugs out of the oil. ;o) (will post ugly pics later..)
The shuddering were a bit reduced, but I still get a non-periodic boost
problem (or at least the car stumbles, like with a defective BPV!) even if I
glued the little rear angled oil ventilation pipe back onto the valve cover
with some metal-plastic. (pretty loose, must have been a big vacuum thief!)
I haven't checked if the now 2-year old BPV is defective again, but could it
be some other issue? (will make a pressure test system soon!)
Regards,
Bjorn :o)
