I am in the planning stages as well for my car with an ETA of about 1
year from now. As for subs in my other car, I have two 8" subs with 1"
tweeters mounted in the rear deck (MB Quart) and one 10" Soundstream
SS10 mounted in the trunk (ported box). This provides a very clean well
rounded sound (or shall I say thump from the subs). The front speakers
are also MB Quarts, with 5 1/4" in the front doors and 3/4" tweeters
mounted in the dash using the windshield to reflect the sound.
However, I am not considering going to this extreme in the Audi as it
required a lot of hours, wire, custom boxes and some major cutting into
the interior metalwork.
The system that I have in mind for the Audi, is to replace the Bose
speakers (and deck) with some Focal's
(http://www.focal.tm.fr/gb_index.htm) and put in a SS10 sub from
Soundstream (ported box). The end result of a system like this is not
that of a kiddy thumper where there is nothing but droning bass that can
be felt from two blocks away; but more of a quiet on the outside and
excellent sound on the inside (wit bass). As for a deck to run the
whole setup, I have not found one that I like. I want something that is
not to far away from what I have now in the Bose system.
Cheers
