The dead AC seems to be a common theme on the list these days.  I for one
would be interested in throwing my hat into the ring for a GP, even a small
one.  From the number of problems I've been seeing, it looks like we could
probably do 5?  Any feedback?

Based on the info that Bob Pastore posted a while ago, I was able to source
a new compressor for $380.  It's in my car right now, and along with a new
60-amp radiator fuse, my car is blowing cold air while idling through heavy
traffic in 95 degF weather.

My compressor is dead on my 95 S6 too.  I've been pricing both new and
used compressors.  As a reference for you, here's the prices I've found:

$1,295 - new from the dealer (I don't think so)
$795 - new from Blau (1 year warranty)
$350 - rebuilt from a local supplier (30 day warranty)
$100 - rebuilt from local supplier (don't trust)

Now, for me, this is the 2nd A/C compressor to fail.  The last one
lasted about 1 year.  It was replaced about a year before I purchased
the car and gave out on my last September.  Lucky for me, I haven't
needed it until now.  So I'll be ordering my new parts tomorrow.  I am
also replacing the receiver/dryer as I believe the system is
contaminated resulting in the 2nd compressor failing.  I'm figure I
might just as well replace the r/d for $99 and flush the system while it

is all torn apart.
