<snip>
I'm gonna rule out the upper bearings as the left
front was new in 11/01 and has 6k? miles on it. Left
and right the sound is the same clack old vs new
bearing. <snip>

Neil:

I broke a new upper bearing on the install of my ECS plates. Luckily, I
caught it before I installed the strut housing in the car. If you rotate
the strut around the upper mount, instead of a flat plane rotation, you
might see a cam action that can immediately destroy the cheap plastic that
the bearing shell is made from. both of ny bearings were new and one broke
before it made it to the car -- And there was nothing unusal about to
assembly process to indicate something went wrong.
