Check Scott J's post of several weeks ago. He outlines exactly how to
wire up a detector in a C4 chassis car (it works for many other Audis
too, including '01 S4s too, but you new car guys choose the path of
least resistance / empty fuse box slots).

In a nutshell. Remove the drivers side trim under the steering wheel
(above your knees). You will otice ~4 ten mumllimeter nuts a the bottom
of the relay panel. Use your test light to choose the switched +12V and
away you go.  I choose the terminal (I forget the #) that gives +12V
only when the motor is running. Works perfectly.
