There is ideal, and there is the real world.
Ideal is a light originally designed for an HID light, where the focal point
of the filament, lens type, projector, etc. are all designed specifically
for HID.
Then there's reality, which is an HID upgrade. A well designed upgrade will
keep the focal point as close as possible to what it should be, have a good
bright bulb, and do a better job than halogen of lighting up the road.
My upgrade, before it went to sh*t, was nice and white, bright, and had the
same beam pattern on a wall as the stock halogens. However, there were a few
issues with yellowing in certain parts of the pattern, a couple of places of
uneven distribution of light, and overall they were not as bright on the
road as OEM HIDs.
Now, they were still significantly better than halogen, but not a true
replacement for an OEM HID system. OS rather than piss on each other's
stuff, we can probably all agree that in order of preference, it goes:
1. OEM HID (or system made or built to take ALL the proper parameters into
effect as the OEM system)
2. Well designed aftermarket HIDs in Euro lights
3. Stock halogen Euros
4. Upgraded DOT lights with Euro lenses, better bulbs and wiring
5. Stock DOT
I've had everything except #1 on that list, and they do work in that order
of preference. And god willing, if I bribe Bob Pastore and Igor with enough
goodies, they'll help me create a system that is in the category of #1.
Thanks all.
