[s-cars] digest, front speaker upgrade.

Hi Ray-

Wish I'd known about the MB Quart adapter ring! Anyway, I sandwiched 5 1/4
Bostons in the front door pod, by using appropriate (read: sheet rock or
equiv.) screws, and then filling in the gaps with some double sided tape and
insulation. Sealed the whole thing up quite nicely. FYI those bose's have
an wierd triangular shape that makes it impossible(I think) to perfectly
match another manufacturer's mounting area.

Basically I just placed them on top of where those crappy Boses used to
mount to. Cutting a new hole and sacrificing the integrity of the door pod
was more than I was willing to undertake. So anyway, not sure about the 6
1/2's. hopefully another lister helped you with that.

I kinda liked that ultra-sensative secret infrared tweeter too. nice, eh!

Thought I'd forwarn you: if you flush-mount a dome tweeter in the stock
location you'll have trouble using the stock grills, as they follow the
curves of the door panel, and don't give you enough clearance for the
dome-tweeter.

I cut out the middle of mine, so that I could retain the shell and the 3
mounting points, and covered them with grill-cloth (which has since come
unglued.... need to find a better way of doing that!)

Anyway, let me know how you make out, and if you have more questions.
HTH,

-Matt

Subject: [s-cars] front speaker upgrade

Hi gang,

I'm designing my stereo install, and quickly pulled the driver's front
door to survey mounting options for something other than the stock 4"
sparkomatics, er, Bose units.=A0 I love the nice foam tweeter installed
behind the stock tweeter grille location.=A0 Very impressive - must be
some fancy infrared design that I am unfamiliar with.=A0 The phase and
alignment are truly in harmony.

Two quick questions.=A0 For those who have uprated the front 4" speakers
to a 5.25" in the stock location . . .

1=2E=A0 Did you use the MB Quart adaptor ring made for the A4's, and, if
so
2=2E=A0 What is the MB Quart part number?

Ok, make that 3 questions:

3=2E=A0 Has anyone installed a 6.5" in the door below the armrest without
compromising too much of the impact support or using a spacer, or
otherwise build a pod?

Tanks.
