Good Day,

I recently purchased a 1995.5 S6 Wagon and am getting a sharp whining
noise when the torsen diff appears to be dealing with changes in
front/rear traction under load. Although this happens rarely, say only
when backing out of a gravel driveway or brisk downshifting, the advice
I have gotten is to dump the transmission as 1. This symptom will only
get worse and 2. If I can pick up a whole replacement tranny the cost
will probably be less than sorting out the old one via parts and labor.

So I've found a S4 transmission at a good price, but the question I've
had difficulty definitively answering is if a 2001 S4 01E will
interchange with the one from my UrS6 drivetrain - specifically, are
dimensions and front/rear ratios the same? If changes are needed, how
involved would they be?
