 Jan,
 I had a similar noise issue, but I had a slight loss in drivability and ul=
timate performance that accompanied it. I found number 2 cylinder spark-plu=
g was not to torque. I removed it, cleaned it off and reinstalled and torqu=
ed it. Ticking went away entirely and drivability / ultimate performance re=
turn. Easy to check, sorry $0.02 worth.......

This is what hapens:

When the car has been parked for a few hours and i try to start it has valv=
e ticking like crazy, just the second you turn the key you can hear it even=
 with the doors closed, the car wont start and the ticking sound continues =
for a while.. it also sounds like there are no compression in a few syllind=
ers during startup when its cold... so after a few minutes the car starts o=
n maybe 2 cyllinders, then one more comes along and then one more and one m=
ore with a few second's in between... the car ticks the first 15 sec's or s=
o when it finally starts, but then suddenly it ruuns smooth.... sometimes i=
t stops firering on cyll nr 1 but comes back.. so when the car is at workin=
g temperatur there is no valve ticking and as i said it runs great, it prod=
uces the exact amount of boost as it has always done.

So what can be wrong?

there is no increase in fuel consumption, nor is there any kind of smoke. n=
o oil leaks, there is now new oil in and there is enough oil..

i checked the timing belt also, that is tight and looks like new..

so i really hope some of you have an idea.. so far i am using the car to wo=
rk.. but i'm looking for a second car asap..
