This would probably be the camshaft position sensor you are talking about,
and no there is no substitute. If you wind up needing one I bought one from
the Parts Bin, $400 or so retail, they charged like $95.

Subject: [s-cars] no start when engine is warm

List,
Please forgive me, as I have sinned, I know this topic has been covered
before, but I don't remember the answer.

I'm driving a 95 S6 with 120kmiles on the clock, which intermittently won't
start when warm. This warm condition includes sitting in the sun after
being driven 5 hours prior.

I know there's some sensor which fails when warm. Can I disconnect it? Rig
it to work? Something?!?!?

Your thoughts and answers would be appreciated.

-John
