To get pinch protection in the way the factory implemented it, you
have to rewire AND replace the window regulators.
The window regulators in the later cars have a couple of output signals
that provide to the window controller information about the movement of
the window.
Essentially, these signals are pulses that count how far the window
is moving and in what direction.  The controller "counts" how many
pulses, and is trained to remember the pulse count when the window
has reached the top of the travel.  If the window stops moving before
it reaches the correct count, the controller stops the window and backs
it up a certain number of pulses.
