[s-cars] I need a guinea pig

Taka,

>From what I understand, Porsche designed a little "flex" into the monoblock
calipers to give the pedal a more progressive feel. I guess they did this
in response to complaints of the brakes being a bit too grabby on 993tts. I
certainly had absolutely nothing to complain about on the 993tt I drove
(thanks again, Mark!), but this is what I've been told. So the Stoptech
caliper should be significantly sitffer than a 996 monoblock. As for the
rotors, Stoptech's rotor is slotted vs. Porsches x-drilled. Both are the
same diameter/thickness, but the Stoptechs use only 5 slots per surface vs.
the Porsche's many, many holes. The 5 slots are more than enough to keep
gas buildup to a minimum and swept area to a maximum. For those who must
have it, they also offer a x-drilled rotor, but I've only installed one of
those so far. It just drives me nuts when companies offer a kit with bigass
calipers and bigass rotors, but then they cram the rotor surface with slots
and holes (ala Stillen's kits), thus negating any advantage such a big kit
has to offer. Porsche certainly doesn't go overboard with their rotors, but
the Stoptechs still offer more total swept area.

I haven't seen the RS6 calipers yet either, but we'll have access to them as
soon as they're available. Right now all the units are allocated to
production, but as soon as the parts shelves get stock, we'll get our hands
on 'em. I'll keep you posted.
