I recommend a Citroen GS with pneumatic suspension set to high. This is the
ultimate car for Off Road. Nobody ele than you in North America will have
one !!!!!
Otherwise a Citroen C6 Chenillette (used in the 30s to go from Paris to
Pekin for the "yellow cruise") if also extremely efficient. Somebody in my
mother family owns one, 30 minutes of driving this thing off road will
request 2 days of sleep to recover from the effort. beyond belief !!!!
Regards,
Frederic

Beg to differ, Dan- Hummers (now H1) may be horrible on-road, but
they've proved to be supremely capable off-road, as long as the trail
is not too narrow for this behemoth and they're not very good for
mud bogging because of the high weight.
I still prefer the Gelandewagen (if you can afford it), otherwise
a Defender 110 for an off-roader that can still carry a lot of
gear. Defender 90 or SWB G-wagen for less gear/people requirement,
Jeep w/ lots of aftermarket stuff for lower budget.
