[s-cars] 2002 S6 Avant questions

I know I'm off topic here, but I seem to remember seeing one if not several
of you out there as having recently purchased a 2002 S6 Avant. I test-drove
one for about an hour Friday (the way it should be driven, without a
salesman riding shotgun :)). Fine automobile, but I was disappointed with
the transmission. When accelerating hard in any gear while in Tiptronic
mode, there was a "thousand one, thousand SHIFT" delay before the next gear
was engaged. If the shift was initiated at 6K rpm, you are well into
red-line territory (above 7K) before the shift occurs.
Two questions: 1) Is there an "adaptive shifting control" that "learns"
your driving style and "tightens thing up" in time...perhaps after a
break-in period?
2) Am I expecting too much of an autobox? For an enthusiast's car with this
kind of price tag, I was expecting better.
