[s-cars] No A/C, no wipers, and finally, no start

Hi...my 96 S6 got flatbedded today; started of with some
metallic noise today, like an A/C clutch, otherwise fine. Parked just
for a few minutes, restarted - and no lights/functionality on the
CCU, and turn signals didn't work. Couldn't find a spot downtown to
do further diags, so drove back to the office, noise persisting.
Checked all fuses, relays, no problem. Slight burning/electrical
smell from engine compartment, hard to pinpoint (not in relay box).
When tried to restart, instrument lights radio, etc come on, but
engine won't even crank! Tried with booster cables, same thing.
Noticed that intermittently, CCU did function, but not always.

 From an electrical point of view, can't figure this multiple failure
thing out, unless I've fried a harness somewhere.

Anyone had any experiences similar to this? If so, welcome your
prognosis.
