Well, now that we have you laughing, from a traditional list of three
greatest / most common lies told (which I have taken the liberty of
modifying slightly to fit the circumstances) I offer you the following
selection:

1.  "Hi, I'm from the government & I'm here to help you...."
2.  "The check is in the mail." & (modified slightly for younger audiences)
3.  "Of course I'll be coming .... to the Nationals.

Unfortunately, in this case, only one of them is true  :-)

Let me know if it doesn't help cover a reasonable prorata share of the
fiasco.
