[s-cars] Polisher Recommendations Sought

I think it's more about torque than rotational speed, especially if it's
random motion. When I lean hard on my Porter Cable, it stops. Granted, I'd
rather be doing that at low rather than high speed, and the speed is in fact
adjustable, but as long as it will not keep spinning if you press very hard,
the risk of burning the paint if very low.

Of course, the most important ingredient is the type of polish chosen, and
how abrasive it is. Heavy compound will go right through clearcoat and
scratch like crazy at 500 RPM, much less 1100.

For hand waxing, I always loved Malm's stuff (www.malms.com), had better
results on black cars than anything else I'd tried. Plus they have the
craziest looking random orbital polisher I've ever seen, but I was too
scared to try it.

For machine polish, the Griot's stuff seems to work really well on my red
car.
