[s-cars] sighting of sorts

Morning-

Last evening on the way home, I remembered how a guy at the bottom of the
street I grew up on in CT here (2.5 miles from me now, sad, eh?) had an S
car a few years back, and it dawned on me (read: squeaky creaky squirrel
wheel in head began to turn) that he just may STILL have it. And I
remembered how I 'think' he had some sort of blacked out tail lights, so I
figured I'd drop in to see in person the 'grey' tail light kit I'm still
pondering.

So I pull in. Garage is open, low and behold, there's his S car sitting
there. Go figure. And he was right there, so we talked. Turns out all he
did to the lights was install numerous thin horizontal black decal 'stripes'
to the lenses. Looks good from far, but far from good (just like with
women). '95 S6, emerald / ecru, 90k, not a lister.

But here's the best part (OK non-S related, sorry). Sitting next to the S
car was something I'd seen burning around town before: a Smart car. My
wife and I'd seen them all over Europe in 2000, VERY cool, I kinda dig 'em.
Actually, the dealership in Stuttgart parks them in a 10 or so story glass
building, tall and narrow, on top of one another. Looks like a Matchbox car
case, pretty neat. Anyway, he imported a cabriolet, chipped it, Brabus
exhaust, etc.(!). He figures about 80 horse for it's 1,500 lb. curb weight.
That thing rocks. He tells me he's working with a woman who has imported a
dozen or so for 'testing' purposes, and they're attempting to get a grey
market thing going with them. But at $24-26 large, I'm doubting they'll be
beating down his doors. Pretty steep for a go cart.

I invited him to my August shindig, maybe I can get him to bring both cars,
seeing as he's right up the street. If I had all sorts of F-U money, I'd
have one. But I don't. Thing sounded awesome, and he tore out of his
driveway in a total blur. Hilarious.
