[s-cars] A/C compressor oil exists??

I noticed mine sapping power more than usual recently.  Then last Sunday it
quit for good.  Now when I turn on the AC I get a ratcheting sound, and the
car stalls.  I'm assuming my compressor self destructed.  Anyone know if
this is something that can/should be re-built?
I think I saw a posting on the list archives for new ones for $800.  Big
ouch, especially considering the MTM GP that was just announced!

harsh and seems to rob a lot of power at idle. Car
seems to struggle to maintain idle with compressor on.
Is there a method to add some oil to the compressor to
have it engage smoother? If so, where do I get it and
where to you add it?
Or is it.....compressor getting ready to disintegrate?
