[s-cars] IA vs MTM

3 bar PT production went NLA as of 1/1/02.
Jobber price used to be around $100. Find any old stock now and price will
be $175-$300! Mike Hoppen personally told me that Roland Meyer (MTM)
purchased all of the remaining stock from the Bosch Central Warehouse.
There are alternatives that aren't as expensive as you suggest. I
developed an alternative as a project for Northern European Performance, and
we have several cars running this way. I've run this way since early in the
year and there is no difference from the bosch 3 bar. It wouldn't be fair
to Northern European for me to disclose more.
Also, stay away from the TAP 3.2 bar PT. It is nothing more than a bosch
2.0 bar PT, with 2 resistors soldered in to try to emulate a 3 bar. The
output isn't linear and it doesn't match the 3 bar output voltage map.
regards,
Bob

Morning fellow fanatics.
Not sure if this is pure BS, rumor or what but I heard that it is true that
the bosch 3bar PT is no longer being manufactured, out of stock and getting
impossible to find. (we all know that!) BUT, I also heard there is some
other manufacturer of a similar 3 bar PT but it is roughly $200 more than
the $60-$80 Bosch unit. Is the Bosch 3 bar PT really $60-$80 ??? Maybe the
software shops are just trying to hold the line for what they currently
offer. Oh, and, I even heard someone was looking at an externally mounted PT
solution but as someone previously said, most shops seem to be turning their
attention to the Neu stuff and I can't imagine alot of R+D money will be
spent looking at old non-standard stuff. I'm still curious about the cost of
the Bosch unit...
Ya know, I work with components eng's from time to time and I've sat in on
more than one vendor meeting. These meetings generally go something like
this. "What is it you want and how much would you like to spend ?". They are
trying to make money like everyone else and if they think they can make a
buck they will. I don't understand why a company (Bosch) would turn away ANY
money ? I understand that Fab lines need to be in place but if the recipe
is already there whats the problem ?
Ok, I'm REALLY naive...
Tom.

The 200q20v IA GP included the option of III or III+.
I don't know how many chose III+, my tendency to be over 8000 ft and
drive even higher passes precludes it w/o chucking the K24.
Strange though, the status email indicates that both flavors needed
the 2.5kPa unit and solicited voluntary $45 contributions to cover the
unexpected cost of snatching up the last ones.
