[s-cars] tired clutch? (longish)

sorry to change paces, but I've recently noticed a warm clutch smell
after "easy" commutes. Subject is a 95.5 S6, 106k. I offer the
following narrative in an attempt at full disclosure, not to seek
ridicule:

The incident: Cold start (50F) and .2 mile jaunt down wet, paved road,
40mph. I see smart-assed neighbor to left, curiously shining his white
derriere in my general direction. In a moment's stupidity, and with no
traffic, I induced wild oversteer the only way possible - nose dive left
followed by hard jake brake, followed by a 1st gear dump at 3k into a
figure-8. No Dahlback spin, but spin nonetheless, hit rev limiter, into
2nd. Felt as if the clutch were slipping the whole time. Then, the
smell.

Now, I sold my 90Q20v with 240k on the original clutch, and never a
hint of heat, chatter, smell, nothing, nada. Granted, 170 ponies didn't
overwork the driveline on that car.

Now, daily driving leaves hints of smoked clutch. Pedal grabs nice,
could use a little freeplay adjustment, but doesn't appear to grab any
different. I've tried to get it to slip in 4th & 5th at low speeds, but
to no avail.

What concerns should I be facing? I'd rather not look at this as an
opportunity to upgrade to a 6-speed, new exhaust, lightened flywheel,
Centerforce pressure plate, etc.

Thanks in advance.
