[s-cars] S4 ECU Software Upgrade ---UPDATE 6-18-2002

I had some old Lehman software on my car as well as a Lehman modified
K-24 turbo and Lehman RS2 EM, circa 1993. I recently upgraded to IA 3+
and there was a huge difference in if nothing else throttle response and
Average torque/hp, butt dyno'ed. I regularly get 23 lb of boost with
the IA stuff. I went with IA because I wanted to deal with a tuner
directly and not a distributor.
That being said Joe Hoppen has done some wonderful things for racing in
the U.S.A. for Porsche, Audi and VW. I feel he deserves the greatest
respect, A brief of the Hoppen history, verbatim from there web site...
"For nearly a quarter of a century, Hoppen served as the head of
motorsport & performance parts and related activities for Volkswagon of
America, overseeing all the North American competition efforts for
Porsche, Audi and Volkswagon. During his tenure in this position,
Hoppen helped to create and oversee Porsche's stunning domination of the
Sports Car club of America's Cam-Am Trans-Am Championships as well as
Porsche's similar domination of the International Motor Sports
Association's Camel GT. In addition to fostering Formula Vee, he is
credited with being the father of Formula Super Vee which quickly became
the training ground where stars such as CART titlist Michael Andretti,
and Indy 500 winner Al Unser, Jr., got their start. In the 1980's
Hoppen developed Audi's highly successful stint in U.S. rallying, and
was responsible for Audi's victories at Pikes Peak and Talledaga.
Through his efforts, Audi likewise won the 1988 Trans Am crown, later
displaying a similar winning record in IMSA's Exxon GTO production-car
series. His accomplishment is credited to 10 National and North
American Championships for Audi."

The Lehmann upgrade does (as I have been informed by
others) not push the turbo as much, doesn't give the
binary (on and off, comes on quick and hard, think
light switch) style instead is a more linear (think
dimmer switch)style of performance. This design does
not use the 3 bar sensor, and does not advance the
timing as much as the MTM upgrade. But, doesn't give
you as much torque in the lower end (as it has been
described to me. It is also designed to be used with a
factory (non-upgraded) car. Again this information has
been taken from several sources, (including this list)
Regards
