[s-cars] RS6 vs M5

When it comes to that (no more manual transmissions) I'll be looking
at BMW SMGII or Ferrari F1 type transmissions.

I will not compromise and get an automatic transmission as long as there
are other alternatives.

The only thing an automatic is worthy of being on is the daily driver
commuter car. If it came down to that, I think I'd be getting something
like a '98 ITR w/ full roll cage as a daily driver. Light clutch, roll
cage makes up for collision safety.

I hear you on the lack of the manual getriebe thing. There is no arguing
this moral issue.

Fact of the matter though is that with that much power, the gearbox is
just along for the ride.

Trust me, I wanted to dislike the RS6 (no avant, tiptronic, no recaros),
so I wouldn't have to buy one.

The paddles are largely a waste of time. Stick the think in Schport, and
let her rip. Watch the M5 shrink in the rearview mirror. Look a little
more closely and you will see the M5 driver shifting madly away.

As sad as it may seem, the manual tranny is going the way of the
sportomatic. Within a decade there won't be very many left.

I'm not happy about it. Just keepin' it real.
