Well, I finally broke down and dropped the coin to lower my S6 boat (Loving=
ly put :-) ).
I took the setup to my favorite shop and nearly had a heart attack when I w=
as quoted 7 hrs labor for the fronts alone!!! So I took the stuff home and=
set up to do it myself. Even did the camber plate mod off the UrS4 page. =
Everything was working out great, till I realized I did not have the right=
socket or the desire to remove the whole front strut mechanism. So, I did=
like I did on my old VW's, and released everything I could, got the strut =
top off (Left it in there for safety, just in case... and proceeded to try =
to remove the springs... Needless to say, even with the steering knuckel r=
eleased, and the sway bar lowered (2 jack stands and 1 jack later) I still =
had to compress the spring to get enough clearence to remove the spring. A=
nyway, all is back to gether now, and after nearly having another heart att=
ack, I realized that the bump stop for the front's would not fit over the B=
ilstein strut cartridge... So I read again and saw that it is not used... =
Relief right? WRONG! I then read one line down and realized that I did n=
ot shorten the rear bumpstop. :-(
The question is this,
On a mostly daily driven S6 Sedan, how critical is the shortening of the bu=
mp stop? I plan to redo the work to shorten it, but I was wondering if it =
will cause any problems driving for a few days as I do NOT want to miss my =
appointment with the alignment shop (When you can get a Quattro allignment =
by someone who does race setups on VW's and Audi's for $150 you don't miss =
the appointment).
Thanks for your patience and any advice here would be great.
