Taka,
Getting clutch done on an S4/S6 is more expensive than a '91 200q. I
have experience with both. The dual mass flywheel on the S cars is
prone to failure and is expensive to replace. Maybe you can get a
complete clutch kit cheap, but all of those parts for my '91 200q were
more than $250 wholesale. Are you saying a shop shouldn't make anything
on parts? FWIW, a friend of mine just had his clutch replaced on his S6
at a shop for $1600, with no flywheel replacement necessary.
As for the flywheel bolts, the factory service procedure says to "always
replace". It is not a bad thing they did so, though most shops don't do
it. As for the flange, it is probably the real main oil seal with
flange. The seal on some of the engines is not listed as a separate
part from the flange, although we all know that it is. IMO, it sounds
like the shop did the job by the book, for the going rate. If a friend
of mine paid that amount, I would not say that he/she had been taken.
Seeing that most of us, my self included, are cheap b^st^rds, we would
find some way to get it done for less. Maybe this would be done by a
buddy in a shop after hours, or done at home. Personally, after doing
one clutch in a 200q, I would ALWAYS pay someone else to it. After
hours in my buddy's shop of course, while I sat back with a Fat Tire...

Greg, Wayne-
Tell me, why are you replacing the flywheel?!?
The parts cost should be much less than what you guys are talking about,
clutch kit should be around $225-250, throwout bearing should be
included in
the clutch kit, pilot bearing as well, don't know why you're replacing
the flywheel
bolts and I have no idea what an $80 flange is.
$2600-2800 is highway robbery. My cost for a clutch replacement is
approx. $950,
incl. parts and labor. Granted, it's a '91 200q, but not very different
and the labor
cost should be pretty much the same- same issues involved in getting the
clutch
replaced.
For $800, it better be a really nicely made lightweight flywheel (and
not one machined
down from the OEM).
