[s-cars] boost/vacuum and air/fuel gauge stuff...

"17" of vacuum is normal-" not necessarily... I think it depends where you
have your Boost gauge plumbed. I have mine "T" right before the ECU and I
wasn't getting more than 10psi of boost but the Vacuum was nice and strong
(17 or more if I remember correctly). Turned out the nipple on the front of
the intake had snapped off (the one connected to the BPV). Fixed the broken
nipple (thanks to wise tip from lister's) by plumbing from the back line of
the intake and now my boost is back up.

Cheers, /James.

	Tom:

17" of vacuum is normal-- in fact it's good if you had a leak at
idle it
would be less. 10lbs of boost is low, but all else, including vacuum
at
	cruise, are normal.
The Air/fuel gauge is doing what it is supposed to do in closed loop
the o2
sensor keeps hunting for 14.7:1, and you will see the fluctuation.
The
usefulness of the gauge is at WOT to make sure in open loop you are
not
	going lean.

	Greetings fellow s-heads !

I've got a few questions/problems I'm hoping someone can comment on
and also
need a sanity check for what I'm seeing in my newly installed
air-fuel
	gauge.

I finally got around to installing my autometer boost and air fuel
gauges. I
wasn't COMPLETELY surprised that I'm only seeing around 10lbs of
boost max.
The car has seemed down on power for a while now and I'm guessing I
have a
leak somewhere, although I'm hoping it's JUST a leak as someone
recently
mentioned seeing 14lbs WITH leaking hoses... I DID see the gauge
hit 16lbs
a couple of times so there's hope. Sound reasonable ?

Sanity check time. At idle I see constant 17" of vacuum and tooling
around I
NEVER see anything close to boost. Matter of fact, most of the time
I'm
sucking wind. I don't see any boost till my right foot is really
into it.
Not sure how else to quantify... Is this normal ?
I'm really surprised. I thought if nothing else, I'd be around even
	boost/vacuum when just cruising...

Next problem is the air/fuel gauge is all over the place ! Even
after a
complete warm up the thing bounces pretty much the whole range. At
idle it
sits in the stoich range but still hunts. Gotta be the 02 sensor (I
hope)
but the previous owner had it replaced about 40k miles ago. Sound
reasonable
? If anyone is interested I took a bunch of pictures of the gauge
install
procedure. The biggest problem I ran into was trying to get a little
too
cute and installing a OEM switch into a dead switch spot for power
and
illumens. That harness has NO slack whatsoever and required an
almost
complete disassembly of center console. Sheesh.

Last but not least, while doing the install I noticed I have a oil
leak at
the top oil pressure switch. There are two sending units and the one
that's
leaking is the one on TOP. Would anyone have a part number handy
and what
are the chances that thepartsbin or equivalent would stock this kind
of part
? Guessing I need to visit the local Audi counter ?

I have a couple more request for info but I need to try to separate
my
	"actual problems" from my "paranoia"...

As usual, thanks in advance !!!

Down to 2 Audis ! but looking again 8-)
