My 12 yr old is going to KART school and we will have a sprint kart by next
year. When he turns 16 he will go to Mid Ohio school and a hi perf. driving
school after that. You cant keep them from wanting speed (he already is a WRC
nut), you can just teach them how to respect it and use it, and see what can
happen if not done properly.  The first car I ever drove fast was a Boss 429
Mustang and the guy who taught me how to drive fast owned a dealership and
never hesitated to call me down to see all the interesting wrecks as well.
All you can do is raise them to have good judgement, teach them how to drive
correctly, show them the downside and cut em' loose, IMO of course.
